The Sly Guises of Opportunity By David Neagle

I wrote last week that when you tap into your true purpose, when you’re a unified force that’s willing to do whatever it takes to manifest your desire, and when all of that fuels your thoughts, goals and intentions ~ there is nothing that you can’t achieve.

Another aspect to that process has to do with opportunity. As Napoleon Hill writes in Think and Grow Rich, opportunity can be difficult to recognize. It often appears in a different form and from a different direction than we expect. It has a habit of slipping in the back door. It can come disguised in the form of misfortune or temporary defeat.

The Problem of Perception

One reason we fail to recognize opportunity is that we rely upon our perception. But that perception can be based on a pack of lies that people have told us.

When you try to navigate from that false perception, you’re like someone plopped into a strange land with a map but not told where he or she is on the map. You have no sound frame of reference. You grope about, hoping to bump into something familiar that will take you in the direction you want to go.

That familiar thing we’re all looking for, and that we reject on a consistent basis, is truth. Opportunity is always trying to help us see the truth, but we block it out.

That truth is not outside of you. It’s not something that someone else can give you. It is inside.

The Guise of Misfortune

Hill writes about opportunity appearing as misfortune or temporary defeat. We perceive the experience as bad or catastrophic, but it isn’t meant to be viewed that way.

The meaning of the misfortune has nothing to do with the surface experience of the situation. No matter how painful or horrific the circumstance appears to be, the truth is beneath it. There is a bigger message for you, a truth message that wants to point you in a different direction.

If you are in pain, you may blame the circumstance, person or action that you believe caused the pain. But that’s not the truth; that is a way for you to avoid being in pain.

The avoidance of pain does not lead to the truth. It leads into blaming and being a victim. You cannot get to the truth that way.

Difficult to Recognize

When an opportunity presents itself in a person’s life, it’s easy for someone else to recognize it. But when it’s your opportunity, it comes cloaked in your situation and circumstances, and is more difficult to see.

Years ago, I was ready to give my right hand to increase my income of $20,000. The opportunity for me to do that was around me for at least two years, but I didn’t recognize it. I literally saw the opportunity as unfortunate, something I wanted to avoid.

When opportunity shows up it will be a stretch. It will be uncomfortable. You can’t hold on to what’s comfortable and step into the opportunity at the same time. They’re not in harmony.

Show Me

When you follow the truth, things shift in a dramatic way. You instantly begin to manifest the way from within. Into play comes the Law of Polarity, which states that if you have the desire on the inside, it’s ready to manifest on the outside. It’s ready now, not in some distant future.

Desire and the physical equivalent go hand in hand. If you’re not manifesting your desire, it’s because you can’t see the opportunity. You’re mentally, psychologically, spiritually blind to it.

You will do yourself a great service if you put this into practice this week: Say to yourself, “Here’s what I want. Show me the opportunity.”

Then watch for the opportunities to appear. I guarantee that no matter what your desire is, the way to do it is already here. The opportunity to get you from where you are to where you want to be will manifest for you right now.
